Spring 2021 Update

In light of current public health concerns, we are delaying the reopening of the Center for indoor, in-person performances until May 2021 at the earliest. With well-being at the forefront of our actions, we continue to monitor safety levels and will open our doors accordingly. This allows us to ensure your safety as well as that of the artists and the staff who make each performance special. We are pleased that many of the artists who were not able to appear during this time will be returning to our stage in future seasons.

What to Expect in 2021

2021 will begin with a vibrant offering of Mason Arts at Home programming, including exclusive artist experiences just for subscribers and donors. As we get closer to spring, we hope to introduce a small number of safe, in-person performances in our outdoor space called Mason Pond Lawn. On January 28, we will announce digital programming through May. Outdoor performances will be announced soon after that. For ticketed digital and outdoor performances, you can expect ticket sales to be announced by email a few weeks prior to the event.

Are there performances at the Center for the Arts this season?

After much careful consideration in coordination with George Mason University, we have made the difficult decision to suspend our presentation of traditional, live, professional performances inside our spaces until at least May 2021.

We will be presenting online events on the Mason Arts at Home platform this season and hope to offer safe, outdoor performances later in the spring semester.  A reimagined spring season of safe and artistically satisfying arts experiences will be announced on January 28.

How can I reach someone at the Center for the Arts?

The Ticket Office will reopen for phone and in-person transactions on January 27. Ticket Office hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. I had tickets to a performance in the 2019-2020 season. What happened to those?

All outstanding tickets to canceled performances in the 2019-20 season were refunded after June 1, 2020, or—if requested prior—were converted to an account credit or tax-deductible donation to the Center for the Arts at George Mason University.

All outstanding tickets to The Chieftains have been refunded as of January 8, 2021, unless otherwise requested.

When performances begin again, what measures will the Center for the Arts take to ensure the safety and comfort of patrons?

Our staff is working tirelessly to be ready to welcome audiences back at the appropriate time with safety measures in place. We will continue to follow the guidance of George Mason University, the Virginia Department of Health, and the CDC. Details about these precautions will be available on the Center for the Arts website when we are able to announce in-person performances.
