We’re excited to welcome our second Mason Artist-in-Residence of the season: Limón Dance Company (November 1). For nearly 80 years, this troupe has been a stalwart of American modern dance, and is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious dance companies.
“Watching a dance performance—especially something like a Limón concert—is less about decoding specific meanings and more about allowing the experience to unfold,” Dante Puleio, Limón’s artistic director, said in an interview with Picture This Post this year. “Let the movement wash over you. Let it take you on a journey. If we could fully express it in words, we would—but dance often lives in the space between language and feeling… So when you're watching, you can let go of the urge to name everything, instead sit with the energy the performers are creating and find yourself in the atmosphere and world they’re building.”
Some of George Mason University School of Dance students will be lucky enough to join Limón company members on their journey by dancing onstage during a special performance of Missa Brevis. During their residency, company members will offer workshops and masterclasses to students and community members on and off campus.
So please join us at this exciting performance, and add your own experience to the company’s living dance legacy.
