Friends of the Center for the Arts were treated to a double dose of special events on Saturday, March 16. It began with a rehearsal observation of the KODO drums performance at 4:00 p.m., which was followed by an informal question and answer session with the company manager.
Then at 6:00 p.m. the Friends gathered on Grand Tier II for a lovely Japanese-themed Artists in Conversation event. Members enjoyed a light repast of sushi rolls, Yakitori skewers steamed Edamame, shrimp Tempura and Matcha tea. We were then treated to a delightful presentation by local taiko drummer and teacher, Mark H. Rooney on the history of Japanese drumming and its current resurgence.
Friends members Christine O’Hare, Janice Sutera-Wolfe, and Jim Wolfe were chairs of this event and treated each guest with a surprise goodie bag of Japanese sweet treats as they left.
