George Mason students from the College of Visual and Performing Arts as well as campus-wide clubs and organizations will be providing entertainment prior to some Great Performances at Mason events.
Thanks to the Friends of Center for the Arts, all ticket-holders have been able to attend Pre-Performance Discussions before nearly every Great Performance. This year and in years to come, audiences at select performances will be able to enjoy something extra.
To kick off this season, an extraordinary string quartet from Mason’s School of Music entertained patrons in the lobby before Daniel Hope’s concert of Baroque music.
Just in time for the holidays, in lieu of a pre-performance discussion on December 2, the Anointed Vessels of Unity Choir featuring Mason students will sing uplifting songs of praise before the 2 p.m. performance of the Soweto Gospel Choir.
“I want to enhance audience experiences,” says Adrienne Bryant Godwin, the Center for the Arts’ new programming manager. She also hopes that the number of arts enthusiasts will continue to grow by bringing together world class touring performers, students from the College of Visual and Arts, Mason’s diverse clubs and organizations, and the campus community.
On November 16, 2018, a Spoken Word was presented in the lobby prior to the Spectrum Dance Theater’s performance of A Rap on Race. It was organized by the Black Student Alliance and Student Involvement.
On February 9, 2019, dancers from Azucar, Mason’s renowned student salsa club will show off their moves and offer free dance lessons after the Havana Cuba All-Stars 8 p.m. performance.
